Depressive symptoms are a broad and somewhat complex subject. A man might react to a depressive event or occurrence entirely different than a woman. A teen may show different depressive signs than someone in their 50′s. Despite this there are definitely general areas of behavior that can be recognized.
To help us understand this better lets enlist the help of Bob, your average working class male who has recently experienced a traumatic loss.
Bob used to be a real go getter until his recent unfortunate event. His boss is trying to be patient while Bob works his way through his current phase, but his patience is growing thin. His once star employee is late for work at least once a week. Once he gets to work he simply goes in his office and closes the door. When asked to accompany his coworkers to lunch he politely declines, claiming he has some work that needs to be done. This once proud man used to be a fixture at the gym. He was proud of his body and tried to stay fit, now it seems that he has gained at least 35 pounds over the last three or four months and seems not to be the stickler about his appearance he once was. End
